Full Details: Juan Soto traded to the New York Yankees in exchange for 5 players
Major League Baseball finally has the Hot Stove ready to cook following yesterday’s blockbuster trade that sent San Diego Padres’ Juan Soto to the New York Yankees.
The Yankees and Padres completed a trade that will send Juan Soto and fellow outfielder Trent Grisham to New York in exchange for pitchers Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez, Drew Thorpe, and catcher Kyle Higashioka.

King, Brito and Vasquez all spent time with the big-league club in 2023, while Thorpe is a minor league prospect.
Vasquez, 25, went 2-2 with a 2.87 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 37.2 innings with the Yankees last season. Brito, who is also 25, went 9-7 with a 4.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 90.1 innings in the bigs. King, 28, started nine games last season but has mostly been used as a reliever during his career. He has a 3.38 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 247.2 career innings. Thorpe was a second-round pick in 2022 and went 14-2 with a 2.52 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across two levels of minor-league ball last season. [MLB.com]
Juan Soto is on the move for the second time in roughly a year and a half. The Washington Nationals sent him and Josh Bell (Phillies Killer) to San Diego ahead of the 2022 MLB deadline for six players.
After a slow start to the 2023 season, Soto turned things around in the second half of the season leading Major League Baseball in walks (132) while hitting .275 with 35 home runs and 109 RBI. He’s a three-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger.
A few days ago, it was reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN that Juan Soto trade talks were heating up and the Phillies were interested but now he’s found a new home in the Bronx with the Yankees.
Still, I wouldn’t exactly say the New York Yankees lineup is looking elite. Anything after Aaron Judge in the picture below is certainly in question.
New York Yankees Potential 2024 Lineup with Juan Soto
As for the Philadelphia Phillies, we’ll see how things play out at the MLB Winter Meetings but all the reports coming out indicate that the “big splash” move from the organization is likely not going to happen. Regardless, hopefully the Juan Soto trade will get the MLB offseason moving. It’s been relatively dead up until this point and reports indicate that Shohei Ohtani could sign with a team within the next week.
I’m still holding out hope that the Phillies will make another “splash” and add a right-handed bat in the outfield, while also signing a closer and another arm for the rotation but again, Dave Dombrowski and company seem to be set on basically “running it back” in 2024.

Nice article! Can you look at my article about Juan Soto? I would really appreciate it!
