Fletcher Cox calls out teammates, wants ‘real leadership’ following loss to Cowboys on Sunday Night Football

Much like everyone else who dedicates time to watch the Philadelphia Eagles play football, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was pissed following the team’s second-straight embarrassing loss, this time at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, 33-13.

About Last Night…

The Cowboys received the football first and on their opening drive, marched straight down the field on a 10 play, 75 yard touchdown drive. They went a perfect 3-for-3 on third down conversions while running the ball five times for 45 yards. The Eagles defense was no where close to putting pressure on Dak Prescott and their inability to tackle was on full display yet again.

Dallas scored on three straight possessions to start the game last night. They led 10-0 after the first quarter and scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 24-6 lead into halftime. To put that into perspective, here’s what the Eagles defense managed to do on 10 straight drives dating back to last Sunday against the 49ers.

10 Straight Drives from the Philadelphia Eagles’ Defense

  1. Touchdown
  2. Touchdown
  3. Touchdown
  4. Touchdown
  5. Touchdown
  6. Touchdown
  7. End of Game – Loss to 49ers
  8. Touchdown
  9. Field Goal
  10. Touchdown

The Eagles’ defense has allowed 64 POINTS in the final two minutes before halftime this season.

That is the most in the NFL.

As for the offense, that has somehow morphed into one of the most predictable and lazy units in the entire NFL, they have scored a combined 26 POINTS over the past four games in the first half.

Plus, when your three best offensive weapons in Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, and AJ Brown are fumbling the football on the Cowboys side of the football field (twice in the red zone) and the offense as a whole is continuously walking off the field with just three points on field goals instead of touchdowns in the red zone, it’s almost impossible to win football games.

So yeah, everyone is pissed and there’s plenty of blame to go around and Fletcher Cox called everyone out following last night’s loss in Dallas.

Fletcher Cox Calls Out Teammates After Loss to Cowboys

“I think the biggest thing for this team now is really find out who the dudes are…and that’s always the case. And I’ve been part of teams where the dudes in the locker room do something about it. And I’ve been a part of the team where, you know, it kind of crumbles.”

“But now it’s time to see the real leadership. The real players. The guys that are elite on this team, myself included, step up and do something about it. Get this team another win.” [NBC Sports Philly]

Playoffs..?!?!

In a matter of two weeks, instead of locking up the number one seed in the NFC and home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the Eagles are in a tight battle with the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East crown and are looking to avoid getting stuck with a Wild Card spot.

The Eagles still have a more favorable schedule over the final four weeks of the regular season but that doesn’t mean they can continue to play football games like they have over the past two games. Philadelphia’s final four opponents have a combined record of 17-33, and they can still win the NFC East if they finish the regular season unbeaten.

Philadelphia Eagles Remaining Schedule

  • Eagles at Seahawks (MNF)
  • Giants at Eagles (Christmas)
  • Cardinals at Eagles (New Years Eve)
  • Eagles at Giants (January 7th)

Dallas Cowboys Remaining Schedule

  • Cowboys at Bills
  • Cowboys at Dolphins
  • Lions at Cowboys
  • Cowboys at Commanders

The Rest of the NFC…

The San Francisco 49ers are 10-3 on the season and have won five straight games. They are in complete control of the NFC West and will close out the regular season at Arizona, home against Baltimore, at Washington, and home against the Rams.

The Detroit Lions are 9-4 on the season after getting their shit kicked in by the Chicago Bears yesterday. They will play the Broncos at home next week, following by two straight games on the road against the Vikings and Cowboys before closing out the regular season at home against Minnesota on January 7th.

Next up the Eagles will head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a game that was flexed to Monday Night Football. Playing in Seattle is always a tough task for any East Coast team and we’ll see how the Eagles respond after two straight weeks of pure misery.
