WATCH: Steelers defensive back Damontae Kazee ejected from the game, suspended for remainder of the season following brutal hit on Colts’ wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Damontae Kazee was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts over a hit on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.
Kazee was ejected after he collided with Pittman while running full speed at the Colts’ wide receiver as he was attempting to haul in a pass from Gardner Minshew.

Look, I understand that Kazee was just reacting to the play and Gardner Minshew definitely left Pittman out to dry with a throw that should have never required him to be diving in order to complete the catch.
I’m also not really sure what Kazee is supposed to do in this situation. Is he supposed to not react to the play and just let Michael Pittman Jr catch it and give the Colts a first down? Kazee made contact with Pittman the second his hands touched the football.
Although ugly, it’s somewhat of a bang-bang play, right?
Regardless, Michael Pittman Jr was basically a “defenseless receiver” which means Kazee should have done everything possible to avoid making that type of contact with him on the play.
Pittman was injured on the play so the ejected was definitely warranted. However, suspending Kazee for the remainder of the 2023-24 season seems like a pretty harsh penalty.
