Tommy DeVito benched for Tyrod Taylor

Tommy DeVito benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor in 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles

The New York Giants made a surprising move coming out of the half in tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, choosing to go with quarterback Tyrod Taylor over Tommy DeVito.

DeVito struggled to move the ball against the Eagles. He was just 9-for-16 for 55 yards in the first half and rushed the football once for 5 yards. That led to just three points for the Giants and a 20-3 deficit heading into the third quarter.

Heading into the Saints game, the Giants managed to win three straight with DeVito under center. After a miserable game last week against the Saints where DeVito passed for just 177 yards in a 24-6 loss, it appears head coach Brian Daboll lost some faith in his undrafted quarterback.

The Giants caught the first of a few really big breaks on the kickoff after halftime, when Olamide Zaccheaus ran into Boston Scott on the Eagles’ kick return forcing a fumble that was recovered by New York.

When the Giants’ offense took the field, it was Tyrod Taylor who entered the game with the offense. Taylor had started three games for the Giants this season entering the Week 16 game. He suffered a rib injury in Week 8, which gave DeVito the opportunity to play.

Taylor completed 7-of-16 passes for 133 yards, a touchdown, and an interception at the end of the game that sealed a 33-25 victory for the Eagles.

Who knows what will happen over the final two weeks of the regular season but finally it appears that the Tommy DeVito “Linsanity Era” has come to an end in New York. As an Eagles fan, I couldn’t be happier. We can put aside all the fake Italian Gangster stuff and the overused “🤌” emoji that has flooded social media over the past few weeks.

Plus, we can finally return to an original broadcast of New York Giants football games. They entered today 5-9 and out of playoff contention but the only thing Fox would mention was Tommy DeVito, completely forgetting that the Eagles were looking to move to 11-4 on the season and a step closer to winning the NFC East.

It was all things DeVito and the kid didn’t even survive until the second half. Bummer. (Not Really)..

The Eagles will face the Arizona Cardinals next week before closing out the season on January 7th against the New York Giants.
