Kelee Ringo has quietly given Eagles secondary a huge boost over the past two games

Despite only seeing 23 defensive snaps before Week 15, Eagles rookie corner Kelee Ringo has given the secondary a huge boost since getting the starting gig two weeks ago.

In Week 15 against Seattle, Ringo got his first NFL start and didn’t disappoint. During a game in which he faced the likes of DK Metcalf, Ringo was only targeted twice and didn’t allow a completion on either one. On Christmas Day in his second NFL start, he was even better, allowing two completions for nine yards and snagging his first INT of his professional career.

It’s worth noting that while Kelee Ringo has faced some stiff competition at wideout, the quarterbacks throwing those pass catchers the ball are career backups, Drew Locke and Tommy DeVito/Tyrod Taylor. We’re going to need to see Ringo play well against better QBs before we can really crown him as our corner of the future. But those moments will come. For now, we should appreciate a young CB playing well while the rest of the secondary, at times, looks completely lost.

The Eagles have had their fair share dumpster fire cornerbacks. And more often than not, they show their true colors pretty early on (i.e. Sidney Jones, Michael Jacquet, etc.). Kelee Ringo will go through his growing pains I’m sure, but he clearly has the type of confidence needed to thrive at corner, and his athletic ability alone should keep in the NFL for a long time.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of role Ringo will have once Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox eventually return to the lineup. If he keeps playing like this, I’m certain Matt Patricia will be able to find ways to use him.
