Pick Tracker: Eagles’ 2nd Round pick from Saints lands at 50th overall, puts team in position to draft intriguing prospect

With the NFL regular season coming to a close, the Eagles 2024 draft picture is starting to come into focus. There’s still a lot of playoff football left to be played, so the full board isn’t set yet, but the team has its first update.

The Eagles will hold the 50th overall pick courtesy of the New Orleans Saints:

I know we’ve got a ways to go until the draft, but one name stands out to me around this spot: Jeremiah Trotter, Jr. Not only is his pops a franchise legend, but he’s pretty damn good in his own right and would bring a level of intensity the entire defense has lacked this season.

With the Birds desperately needing help at the linebacker position, Trotter, Jr. could be the perfect player. Sure, he’s ranked as the 46th overall prospect by certain outlets, but draft boards get shaken up. Plus, if Howie feels strongly enough, he could package his own 2nd round pick and move to go get him or another prospect.

Or Howie can sit back and make two second-round picks to help flesh out a roster with some young players. Anything’s possible.

Here is how the Birds built their draft capital for 2024.

• The team made a massive trade with the Saints involving eight total picks (read more here). The Eagles have the Saints’ second-round pick in 2024 as part of that trade.

• The team acquired Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and a 2025 7th-round pick from the Saints in exchange for their 2023 5th-round pick and the worse of their two 6th-round picks in 2024.

• The team sent the much-maligned Jalen Reagor to the Vikings for their 2023 7th-round pick, plus a conditional 2024 5th-round pick that can become a 4th if he hits certain statistical benchmarks.

Of course, some of these picks have already changed hands during last season’s draft. Plus, there are a slew of compensatory picks for losing players like Javon Hargrave, Andre Dillard, and Isaac Seumalo.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
