WATCH: Jameis Winston, Saints offense goes rouge, scores touchdown in final minute of New Orleans 48-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons

Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints offense overruled head coach Dennis Allen and opted to score a touchdown with just over a minute remaining in their 48-17 dismantling of the Atlanta Falcons. 

Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu intercepted Falcons’ quarterback Logan Woodside with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter yesterday and returned the football down to the Falcons’ 1-yard line.

Instead of taking a knee and running out the clock, Saints running back Jamaal Williams scored a touchdown that infuriated the now former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith.

Winston and the Saints offense wanted to get Williams his first touchdown of the year after the former Detroit Lions running back scored an NFL-best 17 touchdowns in Detroit Lions last season.

Honestly, I have zero issues with anyone running up the score in a professional sports game, even more so when Jameis Winston is under center and running back Jamaal Williams is trying to score his first touchdown of the year in the final game of the regular season.

If you don’t like it, then don’t let the New Orleans Saints score 48 points against you. It’s really that simple.

Winston spoke with the media following the game and the decision to go for the score rather than taking a knee to run out the clock in a game that was basically over already.

He apologized to Allen but informed his coach that the TD run was a “team decision” to honor Williams.
