Jalen Hurts Snubbed from Pro Bowl as Matthew Stafford made it over him
To add to more of the frustrations for the Philadelphia Eagles over the last month, Jalen Hurts being snubbed from the Pro Bowl makes this season that much more annoying.
Look, I don’t care to watch the Pro Bowl whatsoever. But the point here is that there’s a level of respect and honor that comes with being selected for it. For players, it’s something that looks good on their resume and can be a way to get paid more in their next contract. Obviously, in this case, Hurts certainly isn’t hurting for money, but I think the media and voters are punishing him far too much for what’s transpired this season.
What really irritates me is that Matthew Stafford made the Pro Bowl over Jalen Hurts.
Am I missing something here? Obviously, Hurts has had a turnover problem this year, but he’s won more games, accounted for more yards, and 14 more touchdowns than Stafford… Hurts also beat Stafford in their head-to-head game earlier this year. I guess rushing stats don’t count because that’s what everyone on Twitter and ESPN tries to make you believe.
While this is a Philadelphia sports blog, and we are clearly going to be slightly biased towards our teams and players, that’s not the point here. The point is that there are people who get paid to vote and “analyze” sports and can’t do basic math. 38 touchdowns to 24 is crazy, especially when the player who’s scored that much more has a better record. I should also mention the NFL thought it was a good idea to let fans have a vote for the Pro Bowl as well.
With that said, I can understand why Philadelphia fans did a poor job backing their franchise QB. But keep in mind, Hurts has this team at 11-5 with the worst defense in the league. Just think about that for me when you want to keep bringing up the lazy “WIP” talking point that he’s regressed this year. Newsflash: every Super Bowl-losing franchise regresses to a certain extent the following season. But just ignore history and the nature of the sport if it makes you feel better.
