Tyrese Maxey shares story about how Doc Rivers tried to personally stunt his growth last season
Sixers rising star Tyrese Maxey appeared on the ‘Million Dollaz Worth Of Game Podcast’ where he had the opportunity to share many interesting perspectives and stories that haven’t been told.
Before I dive into the biggest piece of content from this show, I wanted to highlight how refreshing of a podcast this was. No bullshit or a lack of substance, as you see on a lot of other podcasts that athletes appear on.
Literally off the rip, Gillie Da Kid said what all Sixers fans were saying over the last few years. Which was them wanting Tyrese Maxey to take more freakin shots and be aggressive.
Anyway, here’s what you came for.
Tyrese Maxey on Doc Rivers bringing him off the Sixers bench
“It hurt me, I had some days where I’d call my mom and I’m telling her I’m sick. I don’t think I’m supposed to be on the bench. I feel like I showed why I’m a starter.”
I cannot express how much I truly hate Doc Rivers. How insane is it that Maxey was forced to come off the bench not too long ago? I could write an entire blog about how Doc is one of the most overrated coaches in all of sports. I won’t do that, but I could probably make that case for his Sixers tenure alone.

If I’m being honest, as angry as this made me today, I feel more sad than anything. All this time, Maxey has been a Sixer; he’s always been known for the joy he carries himself with, and to find out that Doc stripped him of all that makes me sick. This kid got to live out his dream of playing in the NBA, and he consistently proved himself to be a starting-caliber player at the very least.
The best thing the Sixers franchise has done in quite some time has been firing Doc Rivers and trading James Harden so that Maxey could finally have the role he was supposed to have — the lead ball-handler/compliment to Joel Embiid.
