End of an Era: Phillies’ legend Rhys Hoskins signs 2-year contract worth $34 million with the Milwaukee Brewers
According to reports, Rhys Hoskins is heading to Milwaukee, on a two-year, $17 million deal with the Brewers.
Rhys Hoskins: 2-Year, $34 Million Contract, Opt-Out After First Season
Hoskins, who up until this point spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Phillies organization, stormed out of the gates his rookie year, hitting 18 home runs in 50 games during the 2017 season.
In every season since, Hoskins managed to hit at least 27 home runs and most recently, hit 30 homers in 2022 as the Phillies snapped a decade-long playoff drought on their way to the World Series.
Rhys Hoskins is a Phillies legend
Of course, Hoskins’ most notable home run came in Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta Braves Spencer Strider.Â
During the 2022 season, Hoskins hit .250 with 30 HR and 79 RBI during the regular season and added 6 HR and 12 RBI in the postseason when the Phillies needed him the most in the NLDS and NLCS. Honestly, Rhys was arguably the Phillies’ NLCS MVP before Bryce Harper induced “Bedlam at the Bank”.
During Spring Training last season, Rhys tore his left ACL while fielding a ground ball, missing the entirety of last year.Â
Now, he’ll head to Milwaukee on a two-year deal with an opt-out after the first season.Â
So maybe…just maybe Hoskins hasn’t played his last baseball in the city of Philadelphia. He has a one-year loan to Milwaukee while the Phillies work tinker with a roster that features Kyle Schwarber at DH and Bryce Harper at first base.Â
