Philadelphia 76ers make a splash ahead of 3 PM Trade Deadline, acquire Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers
The NBA Trade Deadline is here and the Philadelphia 76ers are active early, acquiring Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers for Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round picks.
Buddy Hield dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of 3PM Trade Deadline
On the season, Hield averages 12 points per game, shooting 43% from the field and 38.4% from beyond the arc with 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
Hield has been underperforming this season, but he has a good track record with his career averages currently sitting at 29 minutes per game while averaging 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game to go along with 43.4% shooting from the floor and 40.1% from three-point range.
The 31-year-old is in the last year of his 4-year $94,000,000 deal he signed with the Sacramento Kings in 2020.
With Joel Embiid likely out until the last week of the regular season, Daryl Morey wanted brings in a veteran player to hopefully jumpstart the offense (outside of Tyrese Maxey) and help the Sixers win games down the stretch.
Listen, don’t get me wrong, I love the trade. I honestly wish it would have happened a few years earlier and on top of that, giving up a bunch of second-round picks and only Furkan Korkmaz and Marcus Morris is a very good deal for the 76ers.
I will say, I’m concerned about Hield’s ability to create his own shots.
That problem will likely be less of an issue when Embiid is back in the lineup but right now, outside of Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers need shot creators and players who can push the basketball and spread the floor.
Does Hield provide that type of relief? I’m not so sure, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
With a little over 4 hours remaining in the NBA trade deadline, it’ll be interesting to see if Morey brings in any more reinforcements to rejuvenate a squad that is 3-7 in their last 10 games.
