Trea Turner says ‘everyone hates’ new Nike Vapor Premier jerseys, Matt Strahm doesn’t understand why MLB would approve such drastic changes

Last week, we talked about all of the changes made to Major League Baseball uniforms thanks to the introduction of the newly designed Nike Vapor Premier jerseys. 

I sound like a broken record but before we dive into what Trea Turner and other Phillies’ players had to say about the Phillies’ new jerseys, I think it’s very important to note that Nike is responsible for the new uniform design.

Fanatics, like they’ve done for several years, are simply “subcontractors”, manufacturing the jerseys for Nike and Major League Baseball. 

Regardless, the jerseys were aimed at improving performance and helping players stay cool throughout games in the summer months. That’s all fine and dandy, however no one seems like them, whether it’s fans on social media or actual players reporting to Spring Training. 

As players arrived in Clearwater, Florida, we heard from Trea Turner about the new-look Phillies jerseys. 

Trea Turner: “Everyone Hates Them”

“I know everyone hates them,” Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner said Friday. “We all liked what we had. We understand business, but I think everyone wanted to keep it the same way, for the most part, with some tweaks here or there.” [AP]

Phillies’ reliever Matt Strahm also isn’t a fan of the Phillies’ new jerseys, questioning why Major League Baseball would make such drastic changes. 

“Don’t fix what’s not broken. The looks of it, it just looks different. The names are smaller on the back. It is what it is,” Strahm said. “Deal with what we’ve got. Anytime you change something, there’s a learning curve and adjustment period. How many people in America get to choose their work uniforms?” [AP]
