Is He Wrong?: Allen Iverson says Luka Dončić “plays like a Black guy”

Allen Iverson joined a recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq and Turner Sports’ Adam Lefkoe for a rare sit-down interview. The Answer covered a great many topics but took a somewhat unexpected moment to acknowledge Luka Dončić’s dominance this season.

Wow. In the words of Andy Samberg as Nic Cage on SNL, “That’s high praise.”

The whole setup of the quote was great as well. Everyone knew what AI was going to say, but wanted to give him the space to say it.

Lefkoe was on the edge of his seat for a minute straight basically begging him to come out with it. And, I’ve gotta say, the payoff was worth the wait.

Of course, Shaq had to immediately jump in to “fix” the statement, saying Luka plays with “swag.” Which, while true, is basically just a rewording of what AI said and didn’t really do anything to augment the point being made.

That’s pretty much Shaq’s role in any basketball conversation these days, though, so I can’t be too surprised.

I’m not one to delve into racial issues without at least a few beers in me, and even then I tread extremely lightly, but I have to agree with AI on this one. Luka doesn’t play like Doug McDermott, that’s for damn sure.
