Tyrese Maxey Most Improved Player

Tyrese Maxey listed as favorite to take home hardware this season, odds to win NBA Most Improved Player Award

Philadelphia, we are post All-Star Break and entering the final the final stretch of the NBA season. While the 76ers seem to be in disarray without Joel Embiid in the lineup, the one shining light on this roster remains in Tyrese Maxey.

While Sixers fans eagerly await Embiid’s return to the basketball court, Maxey is currently listed as the favorite to win the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award.

Following the 2021-2022 season, Maxey increased his average points per game to 17.5 points – up from eight points per game the previous season. He finished sixth in Most Improved Player voting.

This season is different.

Maxey is currently averaging 25.7 points, 6.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocked shots this season – all of which are career highs. He has thrived in the post-Harden era of Sixers basketball and has improved his scoring for the third straight season, while averaging nearly three more assists per game than he did last season (3.5).

This season alone, his highlight reel is pretty insane.

Who could ever forget the career-high 51 points against the Utah Jazz on February 1st?

Tyrese Maxey: 51 PTS | 7-9 3PT | 63% FG | 0 Turnovers

On top of that, Maxey was selected to his first NBA All-Star Team and became the first Sixers player to have at least seven two-point field goals, seven three-pointers, and seven free throws in a SINGLE GAME.

Last Year: Maxey averaged 20.3 points, 3.5 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 60 games in 2022-23.

This Year: Maxey has averaged 26.0 points, 6.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals per game. (55 games).

Obviously, Joel Embiid is the reigning NBA MVP and before getting injured, there was a very good chance he was going to take home the honors again this season. I will say however, there’s a new young sheriff in town who deserves recognition, and that’s Mad Max.

Bottom Line: When Tyrese Maxey wins this award, we should all celebrate the accomplishment and be thankful we have such a young, talented, and hardworking star on our favorite basketball team. If the past week has taught us anything around here, it’s that it’s very rare for an athlete to come into the city of Philadelphia and become one with it.

Obviously betting Tyrese Maxey to win this award isn’t a move right because he’s such a heavy favorite, but why not bet some Sixers futures?
