Phillies add outfield depth, sign former Atlanta Braves outfielder Jordan Luplow, who pitched against Johan Rojas when he hit his first career HR, to minor league contract
We are less than two weeks away from 2024 MLB Opening Day and the Philadelphia Phillies are still tinkering with their roster down in Florida.
Phillies sign Jordan Luplow to minor league contract
On Thursday, the Phillies reached an agreement with Jordan Luplow on a minor league deal with an invitation to major league Spring Training as a non-roster invitee after the outfielder was released by NL East rival Atlanta Braves.Â

Luplow can play all three outfield positions and has also spent time at first base.
While he’s a long shot to make the Opening Day roster for the Phillies, having a utility man like Luplow in the minor leagues isn’t a bad move given the lack of depth in the farm system.
He has a career slash line of career slashline of .212/.314/.423. In 2023 while splitting times with the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins, he slashed .208/.322/.325 with two home runs over 39 games.Â

Jordan Luplow mimics Craig Kimbrel
On August 11, 2023, the Phillies destroyed the Minnesota 13-2 and given the blowout the Twins sent Jordan Luplow to the mound. Luplow copied Craig Kimbrel’s signature stance before Johan Rojas completely ignored the unwritten rules of baseball (and rightfully so) smoking a 47.5mph pitch to deep left field for his first career MLB home run.
