Eagles Draft: PFF lists cornerback as team’s biggest need heading into 2024 NFL Draft
Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have done a great job restructuring their roster during the free agency period, but as we all know, there’s still a lot of work to be done — especially with the 2024 NFL Draft right around the corner.
At No. 22 overall, there are a few viable directions the Eagles could go in. But it seems like the general consensus leans towards the secondary, specifically cornerback. Pro Football Focus echoes that sentiment, listing cornerback as the team’s biggest need entering the draft.
PFF on Eagles’ biggest remaining need:
The Eagles’ coverage deficiencies were their primary undoing in 2023. Their cornerbacks ranked 31st in the NFL in coverage grade last season. A reunion with C.J. Gardner-Johnson will help in the slot, but the Eagles need to add premier talent on the outside with Darius Slay and James Bradberry aging into their 30s.

Not only were the Eagles bad at CB last season, they’re getting increasingly old at the position. And while they do have some young players who may have bright futures like Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks, neither of them did enough last season to warrant a starting spot in 2024.
Philadelphia hasn’t invested a first-round pick at the cornerback position since 2002, when they selected Lito Sheppard. There’s no time like the present to buck that trend.
This corner class isn’t as deep as we’ve seen in recent years, so it’s imperative for the Eagles to snag one early if they’re serious about fixing the position long-term. One guy a lot of people seem to love is Iowa’s Cooper DeJean, who currently ranks No. 8 on PFF’s big board. Drafting him would probably require a trade-up, but given the team’s recent draft history, trading up in the first-round isn’t out of the question. In fact, it’s more likely than not.
We still have about a month to go before draft night. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Eagles continue to add to their secondary before then.
