WATCH: Joel Embiid workout video from Toronto will restore your faith in the Philadelphia 76ers
Last week, it was announced that Joel Embiid will be traveling with the Philadelphia 76ers on their two game road trip this weekend.
Embiid didn’t play on Friday and The Sixers lost to the Cavaliers 117-114 on Friday night. Tonight, they’ll face the Toronto Raptors at 6PM. Robert Covington (knee), Joel Embiid (knee), and De’Anthony Melton (back) are ruled out tonight.
Good News: When it was released that he would be traveling with the team, Nick Nurse stated that Embiid would continue his recovery workouts on the road with the Sixers and clearly, that was the truth. Check this video of Embiid practicing with the team in Toronto.
Joel Embiid Workout Video from Toronto:
Listen, I understand that everyone is suffering gym highlight video PTSD after what Ben Simmons put us through for YEARS here in Philadelphia however, if I told you that I wasn’t excited watching Embiid play basketball again I would be lying.
Honestly, I forgot what it felt like to actually enjoy Philadelphia 76ers basketball but watching Embiid practicing up in Toronto has me ready to run through a brick wall.
Trust me, I know it’s nothing short of a mental illness to have faith in Sixers basketball these days but Embiid returning and getting back to the level he was playing before he underwent surgery on Feb. 6 to repair the lateral meniscus of his left knee.
Joel Embiid averaged 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists over 34 games this season.Â
There are eight games left in the 2024 NBA regular season. The Sixers will face the Raptors tonight, followed by the Thunder on Tuesday – which if I was a betting man, will likely be the Embiid’s return to the lineup. From there, the Sixers will hit the road for three straight games against the Heat, Grizzlies, and Spurs before returning home to face the Pistons, Magic, and Nets to close out the regular season.
Needless to say, a win against the Cavaliers would have been nice. The Sixers are stuck in the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, 1.5 games behind the Miami Heat in seventh and 2.5 games behind the sixth seeded Indiana Pacers.
Will be hard to overcome such a deficit to avoid the play-in tournament, but if Embiid returns and the Sixers rattle off seven or eight straight wins to close out the season, I guess there’s always a chance.Â
