Philadelphia 76ers sign Jeff Dowtin Jr. for rest of season
The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a deal for the rest of the season via Tim Bontemps of ESPN. The details of Dowtin’s new contract are yet to be revealed.
What does Jeff Dowtin Jr. bring?
Jeff Dowtin Jr. originally signed a two-way deal with the 76ers at the beginning of March after Philadelphia waived Kenneth Lofton Jr. Dowtin Jr. has played 7 games for the 76ers where he’s averaging 4.4 points per game and 2.4 assists per game on an average of 12.3 minutes per contest.
In his stints with the 76ers, Dowtin Jr. has proved to have a solid all-around offensive game with his perimeter shooting, spot-up shooting, and playmaking off the pick-and-roll being his most notable traits.
Jeff Dowtin Jr. has been a major contributor to the Delaware Blue Coats, who recently clinched a spot in the G-league playoffs. In 20 games, Dowtin is averaging 19.1 points per game and 5.4 assists per game on 38.7% perimeter shooting (5.6 attempts per game).
Implications of signing Jeff Dowtin Jr.
With the signing of Dowtin Jr, the 76ers have filled 14 of their 15 available spots on their roster as D.J. Wilson’s 10-day contract expired earlier this week. Philadelphia has the means to also convert Ricky Council IV to a standard NBA deal as Council IV has shown flashes of an elite slasher with a high motor in both the G-league and with the 76ers.
The 76ers will be heading into the postseason with a guard room of Tyrese Maxey, Kyle Lowry, Cam Payne, Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton (assuming he gets healthy), and Jeff Dowtin Jr.
