Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid make NBA History following last night’s double overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs

Without Joel Embiid in the lineup on the second night of a back-to-back and playoff seeding on the line, the Tyrese Maxey torched the San Antonio Spurs, scoring 52 points to go along with 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals last night in the Sixers’ double-overtime victory.

Note: Embiid played Saturday night and led the 76ers to a 116-96 blowout win against the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 30 points to go along with 12 rebounds on 9-13 shooting from the field. He played just 22 minutes over three quarters and rested the entire fourth.

Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey became the first teammates to notch three or more 50+ point games in a single season – which obviously is great news for the 76ers – who are finally healthy and closing on the regular season on a high note.

The Sixers have won five straight games and continue to keep the pressure on the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Standings.

After last night’s win, the Sixers are now in the No. 7 seed at 44-35 on the season. They are a game behind the No. 6 Indiana Pacers and hold a half game lead on the No. 8 Miami Heat with three games left until the playoffs. 

The Sixers will close the regular season out at home with a games against the Pistons, Magic, and Nets. There’s still hope they can finish in the No. 6 seed, avoiding the NBA Play-In Tournament and getting a much needed week’s rest before the playoffs.
