Bad Vibes? Aramark workers go on strike at the Wells Fargo Center, breakout Scabby the Rat and the Fat Cat, tell Sixers fans to buy food and beverages elsewhere
The union representing Aramark Food and Beverage Operations at the Wells Fargo Center went on strike today down in South Philadelphia ahead of the 76ers game against the Detroit Pistons tonight.
Aramark goes on strike at the Wells Fargo Center
The union is asking fans to refrain from buying food or drinks from Aramark and to eat elsewhere instead. Maybe they’re upset about the Wells Fargo Center making some pretty awesome updates to the outside of the arena while neglecting the workers inside? Who knows.
From the Press Release: Union members will not be: preparing food mixing drinks, vending food & alcohol, serving food and alcohol, no service in club lounges, no service in suites, no catering. Do not patronize Aramark!
Listen, whenever you bring out Scabby the Rat and the Fat Cat to the same strike – you know it’s serious. I’m also 100% in support of any type of strikes but I do have an issue with the timing of this one.
Aramark doesn’t want to be patronized but I feel like they are patronizing me and other Philadelphia sports fans, no?

The Philadelphia 76ers have won five straight games and are currently battling the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers for playoff seeding with just three games left in the NBA regular season.
Entering tonight, the 76ers are in the No. 7 seed (Play-In Tournament) and a game behind the Pacers in sixth. Trailing them, are the Miami Heat by a half game in the No. 8 seed.
Now you want to tell me that after the vibes, energy, and momentum has finally returned to the Philadelphia 76ers that Aramark is going to go on strike on with three home games left in the regular season?
Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey are making NBA History and proving they are one of the best, if not the best duo in the entire league. We have the Pacers pissing themselves while the Heat are collapsing in front of our very eyes, Aramark!
Is now really the time to breakout Scabby the Rat and the Fat Cat? Can we throw an Embiid and Maxey jersey on them at least? I’m only trying to keep the main thing the main thing (shoutout Jalen Hurts), ya know?
I don’t know honestly. I’m sure it is. Concession workers deserve the very best but read the freaking room. The last (and expected) thing that we need is Aramark Food and Beverage pulling the plug on all concessions tonight and the 13-65 Detroit Pistons winning tonight on the road.
If that does happen, then once this strike is over, I fully expect a free beer and food item for all 76ers fans to start the playoffs – but given the fact that workers are striking, I’m not sure that’s even realistic at this point.
What Aramark should have done is show up tonight and hand out all of the food and beverages free of charge to really set the tone for the NBA Playoffs. Might as well hit their bosses where it hurts, right?
Who knows. Whatever. Just need the Sixers to win out and get some help from whoever is playing the Pacers and Heat. Avoiding the 7th and 8th seed and getting that extra week’s rest before the playoffs would be huge and we’re going to need everyone on the same page if we want to make a run at the Finals.
I am very well aware that expecting our sports teams to be normal for once is a tall order. I’m constantly reminded that it’s just too much to ask for in this city. But lets give it our best shot.
