Eagles Rumors: All signs are pointing towards Green Bay being Week 1 opponent in Brazil

While we haven’t gotten official confirmation just yet, all signs are pointing towards an Eagles-Packers matchup for Week 1 down in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

During the NFL owners meeting in Florida, Green Bay Packers President Mark Murphy told reporters his team was in the running for the Brazil game. On Tuesday, he continued to hint that his team will be heading to Brazil for Week 1, stating, “We’re either the first or second-most popular team in Brazil,” while at the team’s annual tailgate tour.

Based on Packers president Mark Murphy’s comments this morning, it sounds like they’re preparing to open the season in Brazil against the Eagles.

Although the Eagles-Packers contest will be one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, it’s not ideal from the Eagles POV. Both team figure to be NFC contenders in 2024, so having this game on a neutral field isn’t ideal. If this game were to be played in the states, Philly would host. Home field advantage is always pivotal in these kinds of matchups.

From a TV revenue and excitement perspective, this matchup obviously makes a lot of sense. And at the end of the day, that’s all that matters in the eyes of the schedule makers.

The Brazil matchup is expected to be officially announced any day now. At this point, it would be surprising to see any other matchup outside of the Eagles and Packers.
