Joel Embiid Team USA

Apparently Sixers fans aren’t happy with Joel Embiid playing with Team USA in the 2024 Olympics…?

Joel Embiid was officially listed as a member of Team USA when the 11-man roster was revealed yesterday ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, France.

I wrote a very patriotic article about Joel Embiid joining Team USA yesterday.

Like clockwork, everyone who knows absolutely nothing about sports, basketball, and being in a locker room with elite levels of talent all around you took issue with Joel Embiid joining Team USA. Apparently there are some serious concerns about Embiid’s health and ability to remain healthy during and after the Olympic Games.

Shocker. Here’s what all of these lovely followers of The Liberty Line on Facebook have failed to realize. Joel Embiid playing on the International World Stage in the Olympics against the best basketball players on Planet Earth is probably the best thing that’s happened to him since he started playing basketball.

Think about it. Embiid entered the NBA and was the silver lining of “The Process” in Philadelphia. There were countless attempts to build a viable NBA Finals contending team around him, all of which failed miserably. Instead, Embiid has been plagued by injury, year after year, with a rotating cast of players plugging holes in the lineup.

The Sixers as a team, have never advanced past the second round of the NBA Playoffs and the general hope around Embiid and company continues to fade year after year.

Embiid, now with the perfect opportunity to compete in the NBA Playoffs healthy, then shifting into the 2024 Olympic Games on a Team USA roster that consists of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Edwards should take this entire experience to heart.

Joel Embiid is coming off a season where he averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.6 rebounds per game. The only other player in the history of basketball to average those types of numbers (34/11/5) in a 39 game span is Wilt Chamberlain.

He would have repeated as the NBA Scoring Champion for the third straight season if he remained healthy, and was well on his way to being crowned the back-to-back NBA MVP. Now, Embiid will finally have his chance to compete at the highest level and actually win something this summer – which will only help his mindset and general growth as a player, leader, and teammate in the future.
