Disgusting Behavior: Philly Sports Talk Radio and the majority of Phillies fans have forgotten that baseball doesn’t officially begin until June 1st
The Philadelphia Phillies barely hung on to beat the lowly Colorado Rockies last night by a final score of 2-1. It wouldn’t have happened without JT Realmuto and Jeff Hoffman heroics or Cristian Pache roping an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th.
Jeff Hoffman: ‘I wish baseball was more of a contact sport’
With the win, the Phillies are now 9-8 on the season and will host the Rockies yet again tonight at Citizens Bank Park.
Bad Vibes? Don’t see it changing much? Really? Why is that?
The general buzz around the Phillies and their “slow start” to the 2024 season is glaring. Philly Sports Talk Radio has basically written this team off 17 games into the season and fans online can’t even fathom a slow start to the season and are still having nightmares from the cold spell that struck during the worst possible time in last year’s NLCS.
This Phillies team is notorious for starting the season slow. Is anyone really surprised that Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos are off to slow starts at the plate?
Listen if you want to make an argument that Castellanos hasn’t lived up to his $100 million contract then that’s a fair argument to make. I would disagree but at least you have a hill to stand on, ya know?
It’s also worth noting that Castellanos has stated that he’s working through a swing change to start the 2024 season – which could contribute to the fact that he has just 11 hits in 62 at-bats while posting a miserable .177 batting average with a .427 OPS while still awaiting his first home run of the season.
It’s blatantly obvious that Nick Castellanos is currently in “swing through it” mode to start the year, but I have full faith he’ll turn things around – he always does.
Last season, Castellanos hit .272 with 29 home runs, 106 RBIs, and 79 runs scored while playing 157 games. In June 2023, Castellanos hit .351 with 34 hits, five home runs, and 21 RBIs while crossing the plate 12 times over 24 games that month.
In the NLDS, he basically carried the Phillies over the Atlanta Braves, hitting .467 with seven hits, four home runs, 4 RBIs and five runs scored across four games.
Enough about Nick Castellanos, here’s the good news:
Trea Turner: .299 BA | .768 OPS | HR | 5 RBI
Brandon Marsh: .288 BA | .886 OPS | 4 HR | 9 RBI
JT Realmuto: .264 BA | .693 OPS | 2 HR | 4 RBI
Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott are perfectly fine. The hype around both players has always been overblown but they are sound, trustworthy baseball players in the lineup and will almost certainly play better as the weather continues to improve.
As for Johan Rojas, if you had half of a brain entering the 2024 season, then you already know that the Phillies’ young centerfielder playing as expected. If Topper was smart, Rojas would be in the minor leagues and Cristian Pache, who delivered the game-winning hit last night against the Rockies, would be starting in centerfield but I digress.
The new guy, Whit Merrifield has a case of the “First Year in Philly Flu” and is expected to return closer to norm over the next few months, so I’m not really concerned there either.
So please, spare me the nonsense about this Phillies team not having what it takes this season. Sports Talk Radio will tell you the Phillies are pitiful and how we should be sounding the alarms about the lack of offensive production but they are nothing but a bunch of drama queens.
June 1st will come. Hittin’ Season will return. The Phillies will be the same team they have been over the last two seasons where they start slow and turn things on when the weather heats up.
Last year, the Phillies posted a 7-3 record to begin June and finished the month 18-8. Nick Castellanos hit .351 with 34 hits, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 12 runs scored during the month while his teammate Kyle Schwarber hit 8 home runs to go along with 16 RBI.
On top of that, the Atlanta Braves aren’t running away with the division yet! Spencer Strider is done for the season and the NL East Standings are as tight as they’ve ever been.

Wild statements on Philly Sports Talk Radio…
94.1 WIP radio host Joe Giglio (lord save us lol) is on the airwaves screaming and crying about the Phillies and how this team “doesn’t have what it takes” to be a World Series contender.
This moron doesn’t think Bryce Harper will sniff 30 home runs this season and even said that Harper hasn’t even been a 30 HR guy since joining the Phillies.
In his final year with the Washington Nationals, Bryce Harper hit 34 home runs. He followed that up by hitting 36 home runs in his debut season with the Philadelphia Phillies. From there, 2020 was the COVID season, where Harp hit 13 homers in 58 games.
Harper hit 35 home runs in 2021. He hit 18 homers in 2022 while basically playing half of the regular season and last year, he hit 21 in 126 games after a miracle recovery from shoulder surgery.
This season, yes, Harper is off to a slow start but at the same time, he has three home runs in 17 games. Harper is literally on pace to hit 29 home runs with 76 RBI. Making foolish statements on radio is a bad look but unfortunately, that’s on par for what we’re given here in the city of Philadelphia.
Well, that’s obviously a load of bullshit. In fact, I would say any and all concerns about the Phillies at this point in the season are a load of bullshit.
Is it ideal to start every year off slow? Of course not, but once the weather warms up, the Philadelphia Phillies will too. I’d bet my life on it.

EXACTLY!!
