Ranger Suarez joins Phillies legends Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels in franchise history after complete game shutout vs Rockies
Ranger Suarez dominated the Rockies lineup last night, throwing a 112-pitch, complete game shutout, allowing seven hits, zero earned runs, and a walk – striking out eight.
It marked the second shutout in Major League Baseball this season. The first came when Ronel Blanco threw a no-hitter for the Houston Astros on April 2nd. It was the Phillies’ first shutout since Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter against the Washington Nationals last August.

Ranger joined Cole Hamels (4) and Cliff Lee (4) as the only Phillies left-handed pitchers to throw multiple shutouts at Citizens Bank Park. Speaking of Cliff Lee – if Ranger Suarez “no heartbeat” demeanor on the mound reminds you of anyone, look no further.

Since the start of 2021, Ranger Suarez has a 3.10 ERA in 94 appearances – 67 of them being starts. This season, he’s 3-0 in four starts with a 1.73 ERA. That ERA is the lowest by a Phillies lefty through four starts to begin a season since Steve Carlton’s 1.63 ERA in 1983. [MLB]
Ranger has thrown 26 innings and struck out 27 batters to go along with a 0.77 WHIP. He has not allowed a run in 18 consecutive innings.

The Phillies, guided by Ranger Suarez, beat the Rockies 5-0 last night.
JT Realmuto hit a 2-run home. run in the bottom of the first inning to give Suarez an early-lead. Realmuto has been on a revenge tour after a sub-par 2023 campaign and changes made to swing over the offseason have certainly paid off.
While his average isn’t quite there yet – Realmuto has belted three home runs with 6 RBI. He has 15 hits in 57 at-bats and a .732 OPS.

After I painfully listened to Philly Sports Talk Radio on my way into work yesterday and heared Joe Giglio on 94.1 WIP tell listeners that the Phillies don’t have more than one (Kyle Schwarber) guy in the lineup that could hit 30 HR this season, Bryce Harper and Realmuto made the article I wrote yesterday look much better last night.
Note: JT Realmuto is on pace to hit 29 HR. Bryce Harper is on pace to hit 36 HR.

Harper went 2-for-4 last night with the home run and an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the weather getting warmer outside, I fully expect Harper and the rest of the Phillies lineup to start crushing baseballs in South Philadelphia. Last night, even against a horrible Rockies team, was a step in the right direction.
