Oakland Athletics play-by-play Jenny Cavnar

LISTEN: Oakland Athletics play-by-play announcer Jenny Cavnar gives one of the most uninspiring calls in the history of professional sports

Oakland Athletics play-by-play announcer Jenny Cavnar delivered one of the most atrocious calls by a broadcaster in professional sports on Friday night in the A’s comeback win over the Baltimore Orioles in extra innings.

Before we dive into it, I think it’s fair to say that being in the booth for the Oakland Athletics as a play-by-play announcer might be the most boring job in the entire world.

A’s fans absolutely despise the ownership, they are going to play in Sacramento at a minor league stadium until they ultimately make a move to Las Vegas, and the team has been caught up in several online conspiracy theories while putting a bad lineup on the field night after night.

Side Note: The fact that the Athletics have a better record than both the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros is absolutely hilarious.

Oakland Athletics fans are the most tortured fanbase in all of sports and they definitely deserve better than whatever play-by-play announcer Jenny Cavnar attempted to do on Friday night.

The A’s were trailing the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 through eight innings and had two runners on base to start the 9th inning, on the road at Camden Yards in Baltimore.

Abraham Toro then drove a 2-2 pitch from former Philadelphia Phillies reliever Craig Kimbrel over Ryan McKenna’s head in right field to score the tying run.

Oakland Athletics TV play-by-play announcer Jenny Cavnar on the call:

I mean seriously, what was that? Now Oakland Athletics fans have to deal with a play-by-play announcer that literally has the feel of a rapist on the broadcast booth?

The call from Jenny Cavnar honestly may be the worst call in the history of sports, even more so on an exciting play that rarely happens in Oakland – a 3-2 extra innings win over a very good baseball team in the Baltimore Orioles.

What makes matters worse is the fact that Jenny Cavnar is the first woman play-by-play announcer in the history of Major League Baseball. She was was hired in February as a replacement for longtime A’s announcer Glen Kuiper, who was fired for dropping the n-word on air. You would think that she’d be more “locked in” to games rather than broadcasting like she’s not even in the same ballpark or hell, even watching the game, right?

Needless to say, things really haven’t worked out in Cavnar’s favor this season and Friday night’s call might have been the final nail in the coffin. Athletics fans took to social media to rightfully voice their displeasure with Cavnar’s performance this season.

Side Note: Still doesn’t beat “Boom Goes the Dynamite”

  1. She did limited play by play as a fill in with the Rockies, otherwise was primarily a studio host. She does not have the experience at play by play per se, not just at the MLB level.
