Power Rankings Roundup: Where do the Eagles rank following the 2024 NFL Draft?

After extending both of their star receivers, Philadelphia strengthened their sole weakness through the draft by adding top corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

How do the Eagles stack up against the rest of the NFL following the draft? Let’s take a look at the latest Power Rankings:

One of the more surprising developments of Round 1 was Philadelphia getting its pick of the cornerback litter without needing to trade up.

GM Howie Roseman has inherited a reputation for being aggressive for good reason, and he showed that side in the brilliant Day 2 trade-up for Cooper DeJean.

Knowing when to go bold and when to hold back is a drafting art, and Roseman appears to get this as well as anyone. The Eagles’ first two picks were a clear demonstration of that.

And, for good measure, they also took their usual approach to the remainder of the proceedings, mixing in a couple of interesting, unusual project picks (edge Jalyx Hunt and WR Johnny Wilson) with some rock-solid selections (RB Will Shipley, LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr., OG Trevor Keegan) to round out a typically impressive draft haul.

They had a nice draft, adding two much-needed secondary players, and the Super Bowl hangover is a thing of the past. The pressure is on for a bounce-back season for this group.

At first glance, the Eagles had one of the best draft classes from top to bottom. The Eagles addressed arguably their biggest weakness at cornerback by taking Quinyon Mitchell with the 22nd pick and then trading up in the second round for Cooper DeJean.

Bleacher Report’s scouting department ranked Mitchell and DeJean as the first and fourth-best cornerbacks in the class, respectively.

If head coach Nick Sirianni made better decisions in hiring coordinators (Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio), the Eagles should bounce back from an abysmal finish to the 2023 season.

Death, taxes, and Howie Roseman putting together a great draft class. Eagles fans should be excited by many of their 2024 rookies, especially corner Quinyon Mitchell and versatile defensive back Cooper DeJean, who should help fix Philadelphia’s secondary.

Clearly, last season’s collapse left a sour taste in Howie Roseman’s mouth. The Eagles general manager has pulled every lever this offseason.

The Birds added Saquon Barkley to an already-amazing offense, and they replenished the defensive depth chart with signings like Bryce Huff and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, not to mention big-time draft picks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

No excuses in Philly if Jalen Hurts & Co. can’t improve on last year’s lousy finish.

A motivated Saquon Barkley running behind the best OL of his career will help Jalen Hurts rebound. Jason Kelce retirement hurts the Tush Push.

Fletcher Cox and Haason Reddick will be missed as well. New DC Vic Fangio and new OC Kellen Moore could save Nick Sirianni. GM Howie Roseman infused quality new blood into aging secondary with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

The Eagles and Lions were both clinical in addressing their needs in the secondary, with Cooper DeJean being, potentially, one of the better value selections in the whole draft.

While I do like the big swing at edge rusher in the third round (Jalyx Hunt), my only question mark is how the Eagles are planning to supplement for the future losses on the offensive line and, really, throughout their defensive front seven with a few stalwarts nearing retirement age.
