Eagles News: Cooper DeJean ‘lined up everywhere’ during rookie minicamp

While some teams viewed Cooper DeJean’s versatility as a negative during the pre-draft process, the Eagles valued that skillset.

Playing multiple positions is beneficial in a Vic Fangio-led defense, which is precisely why the Eagles traded up to select him at No. 40 overall.

“When you talk about Cooper, Cooper’s a playmaker,” Roseman said following the draft. “I think that, at the end of the day, football instincts, any sort of instincts are huge, and he’s got elite instincts.

Wherever you put him, he is a playmaker, he has a nose for the ball, you’ve seen him do it in clutch moments, obviously saw what he did in the Minnesota game.

We thought this guy was a culture guy, we thought this guy has a chance to be an elite player in this league, just like we did our first-round pick. We were aggressive there in the second round to try to bring him to Philadelphia.”

The Eagles kicked off their rookie minicamp on Friday, where DeJean reportedly ‘lined up everywhere’ in the secondary during practice.

DeJean told reporters on draft night that he has no preference between playing outside, slot CB, or safety:

“I have no preference. I can do all 3. You put me on the field, I’m going to go play football. I’m a football player. As long as I’m on that field, I’m gonna be happy, and giving it my all every play.”

The Eagles are hopeful DeJean and first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell will help improve a secondary that ranked 30th in pass defense last season.
