According to reports, the Los Angeles Clippers want to bring back Paul George, keep current group together
Last week, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst connected Los Angeles Clippers Paul George to the Philadelphia 76ers as their number one target to sign this summer.
The Philadelphia 76ers are set to have roughly $55 million in cap space this offseason – a number that could (and should) increase to nearly $65 million if they choose to waive all non-guaranteed contracts. That means they have plenty of cap space to add one or two NBA stars to pair alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Today, Shams Charania gave an update on FanDuel TV on where contract negotiations between the Clippers and George currently stand.

“This Clippers team fully intends to keep this group together, they want to bring back Paul George as a free agent or give him an extension, but they have not been able to reach an agreement with Paul George.” [FanDuel TV]
According to additional reports, the Clippers have made several contract offers to George already, but he has yet to accept one. Knowing that, it does appear that Paul George will test the free agent market this summer.
Honestly, I have zero interest in bringing Paul George to Philadelphia. I would much rather focus the attention to Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, LeBron James, or really the best possible option, Brandon Ingram.
Here’s the potential problems with the players rumored to be linked with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer…
Paul George hasn’t won anything and continues to prove that he’s a perennial loser in the playoffs.
Kevin Durant will almost certainly ruin the 76ers ability to add pieces for the future.
LeBron James is laser-focused on playing basketball with his son and at this point, it seems very unlikely to come to Philadelphia.
The 76ers already had their chance Jimmy Butler and completely mishandled it. Now, Jimmy is an aging player that’s unhappy in Miami and looking for a way out. No thank you.
That brings me to Brandon Ingram, who is only 26 years old and coming off a season where averaged 20 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
The Pelicans made the playoffs this season and I can’t help but think that Ingram alongside Embiid and Maxey will shine even brighter in Philadelphia.
Regardless of all the information above, I really don’t have faith in Daryl Morey to deliver and correctly build around Embiid and Maxey so it will be interesting to see what steps he takes to avoid yet another failed attempt at basic roster construction.
