Report: 76ers willing to offer Jimmy Butler max extension if Heat trade him

Jimmy Butler may be returning to Philadelphia sooner rather than later.

According to the Philly Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, the 76ers are prepared to offer Butler a max contract if the Heat decide to trade him.

Butler, who has $48.8M guaranteed for next season and a $52.2M player option for the 2025-26 season, is reportedly looking for a two-year max extension worth $113M. Rumor has it the Heat are hesitant to commit to Butler long-term due to his age, decline in play and persistent absences.

To further fuel the fire, Jimmy Butler stated earlier this month that if he wasn’t injured this postseason, the Boston Celtics, who beat Miami 4-1 in the first round, and the New York Knicks, would’ve been sent home.

Heat President Pat Riley didn’t take Butler’s antics well. The NBA legend virally said, “If you’re not on the court playing against Boston or New York, you should keep your mouth shut.”

With Tobias Harris officially coming off the books this offseason, the 76ers and President of Basketball Operations have made it clear they intend to add a third star to the nucleus of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

While Paul George is at the top of their list, a Jimmy Butler reunion is certainly on their radar as well. LeBron James, OG Anunoby, Zach LaVine, and Brandon Ingram are also potential targets for the Sixers outside of George and Butler.

This story is developing.
