American Tragedy: Joey Chestnut BANNED from 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest over sponsorship dispute
Joey Chestnut, the 16-time champ of the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest has been banned from this year’s event. The winner of eight consecutive Mustard Belts has been axed from this year’s proceedings over his sponsorship agreements.
Joey Chestnut chose to represent vegan brand Impossible Foods over Nathan’s, resulting in his ban from this year’s competition:

Sponsorships preventing someone from making money means we have officially hit late-stage capitalism. American society has become an ouroboros of consumption and corporate nonsense. Adam Smith is rolling over in his grave, this is anything but laissez-faire.
Impossible Foods backed up the Brinks truck for Joey and essentially forced his hand. Now, he’ll be stuck scarfing down lab-grown meat like a vault dweller from Fallout. How far the American dream has fallen.
This really feels like a cheap excuse from Nathan’s to inject some parity into their hot dog eating contest. Joey Chestnut has been a dominant force in the game for the better part of two decades.
Dominance can yield viewership, just look at Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James. But there comes a point the viewing public grows tired of it. Nathan’s saw an opportunity and took it. Nothing else to it.
This is what America does to people; not even Joey Chestnut is safe. In the words of the great Kendrick Lamar:
