WATCH: Joel Embiid teases Sixers offseason plans during NBA Finals segment as he’s sitting right next to Paul George
In what seemed like was going to be a very painful night for Sixers fans, turned out to be the complete opposite. The Boston Celtics got destroyed by the Dallas Mavericks and our MVP Joel Embiid joined ESPN’s NBA Countdown show.
As you can imagine, Embiid had a lot to say, and it’s truly electric whenever he’s around. It honestly felt like the old days with Joel when he was smiling, laughing, and just being himself. Unfortunately, we’ve escaped that because of the continued organizational malpractice within the Sixers organization. Still, I also think a portion of the fanbase is unfair towards Embiid as well.
Joel Embiid teases Sixers offseason plans
Joel Embiid on the Celtics and recruiting free agents to the Sixers: “I can’t stand them. I hate Boston. Great city. Great fans. They’ve got some great players. Hopefully, this offseason, we find a way to get better and add some pieces (looks at Paul George next to him).” 😂 pic.twitter.com/vZkZeuFXIK

“Hopefully, this offseason we find a way to get better and add some pieces,” with a giant grin and side eye directed right at Paul George. In what seems like the worst kept secret in the NBA, it was refreshing to see something other than the Los Angeles Lakers coaching search dominate the headlines.
The Sixers have obviously been linked to George since before the offseason. And if we’re being honest, he’s been tied to the Sixers several different times during this “Process” era. The nine-time All-star hasn’t been on the same page with the Clippers on an extension and this leaves the Sixers in prime position to steal him away.
I know we’ve been down this road before…
As someone who has talked themselves into every single star player the Sixers have acquired over this era, for some reason, seeing PG and Embiid side by side like that and the way the two behaved just felt different. The two are older and more mature basketball players and grown men. It just seems the two are about business, and I definitely put stock into what I saw from the two last night. You can call me crazy but I’m not the only one who felt that way.
Free Agent Paul George on being at the NBA Finals
“This is my first Finals appearance and I hate that it had to come in this fashion. Watching it from the sideline, it doesn’t feel good. Shout out to the two teams that made it this far. But when you think back on what we should’ve done and could’ve done better to be where they’re at right now … all of the little plays, you start to think about them.”
Joel Embiid, who played through Bell’s palsy and a left knee injury in the postseason got to address how he’s doing as well as his status for the Olympics.
“It’s going to be big for me because I’ve been dreaming about it since I was a kid,” Embiid said. “I’m excited about it, just to be part of the experience. Growing up and watching it, I just wanted to be in it. But I feel pretty good. I’m excited to get back and go to work.”
Just a very wholesome segment from Joel Embiid, who got to touch the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy before anybody on the Boston Celtics got to. I’m serious by the way, if you watch the entire segment, as the Sixers big men left the set he literally touched the trophy. For once, it seemed like the basketball God’s were on our side.
