Report: 76ers expected to re-sign three free agents this offseason

With the 2023-24 NBA season coming to a close, focus now shifts to the offseason, where the 76ers hope to rebuild their roster around superstars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

While Philadelphia remains heavily connected to several big names this summer, most notably Paul George, LeBron James, and potentially Jimmy Butler, they’re also prioritizing pending free agents of their own.

According to Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire, the 76ers are expected to re-sign Kyle Lowry, Kelly Oubre, and Nic Batum.

The Sixers are expected to keep guys like Kelly Oubre Jr., Nic Batum, and Kyle Lowry as those three play a big role in what Philadelphia wants to accomplish. However, there is a rival team that could steal Lowry from the Sixers.

Carlin also notes the New York Knicks were pursuing Lowry once he was bought out by the Charlotte Hornets, per The Athletic’s Fred Kats.

The Sixers signed Oubre to a one-year contract during the free agency last summer. The 28-year-old averaged 15.4 points on 44% shooting over 68 games.

In October of last year, the 76ers acquired Batum from the Clippers as part of the James Harden trade. In 57 games in Philadelphia, the 35-year-old averaged 5.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while playing excellent defense.

Once he came back to his hometown, Lowry aided the development of Tyrese Maxey, averaging 8.0 points and 4.6 assists as a veteran presence.

With Tobias Harris’ contract finally off the books, President Daryl Morey has the cap space necessary to put complementary pieces around his franchise cornerstones. We’re not sure how much time we have left of Embiid’s prime and can’t afford to waste another year.
