NFL Rumors: ESPN names one final free agent the Eagles should sign ahead of training camp
With training camp just five weeks away, NFL teams have limited time to add players to their rosters.
While the Eagles have few glaring weaknesses on paper, they could use additional depth at safety. Luckily, there’s a veteran option available who is familiar with new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
ESPN recently released their Final moves for all 32 teams before camp and have the Eagles signing free-agent safety Eddie Jackson.
What the Eagles could use is defensive depth. At safety, for example, Sydney Brown is coming back from an ACL injury suffered late last season, leaving little depth behind C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Reed Blankenship.
Jackson, a former Bears star, would help stabilize the unit. He could play strong safety if Gardner-Johnson lines up in the slot, or he might even beat out Blankenship for the free safety position.
Jackson, 30, has played the entirety of his career in Chicago and will now seek a new home in 2024.
The former All-Pro was a fourth-round pick by Fangio in 2017 and saw his best years within his system. In two seasons under Fangio, Jackson recorded 96 tackles, 21 passes defended, and eight interceptions (three for touchdowns).
With Fangio now in Philadelphia, Jackson would be a natural fit, although age could play a factor. The Eagles traded for Kevin Byard during the season with little to no results — GM Howie Roseman may elect to remain younger on the back end.
Safety is a critical position in Fangio’s scheme, however, and Jackson would bring plenty of experience to the DB room.
Are the tides turning in Dallas?!
