WATCH: Phillies turn crazy 1-3-5 triple play against Detroit
The Phillies made history in Detroit tonight while taking on the Tigers. Aaron Nola was cruising on the bump and wound up flashing the leather to start a play that hasn’t been seen in nearly 100 years.
The Phillies greeted old friend Matt Vierling with a bonkers 1-3-5 triple play:
The @Phillies just turned a TRIPLE PLAY! 😳 pic.twitter.com/LrZDyJlJAa

That was insane. Kudos to TMac; he was all over that one from the jump.
I was listening to this play on the radio, taking a lovely stroll through Fishtown, and our guy Scott Franzke wasn’t so lucky. It was mass chaos on the radio, and he even admitted it wasn’t his best triple-play call.
Don’t be so hard on yourself, though, buddy. That play was as rare as they come.
How rare? Well, it hasn’t happened since July 11, 1929, per Matt Gelb. Talk about a historic play.
That was the first 1-3-5 triple play in Major League Baseball since July 11, 1929, according to Baseball Almanac. https://t.co/yZ9n5qxE3b
