Spike Eskin takes credit for Bryce Harper’s 5-RBI performance after spreading anti-Harper propaganda

94WIP has been on a downward spiral as of late. A litany of irrational things have been said on the station recently, but Spike Eskin’s anti-Bryce Harper rant from Monday may have taken the cake.

During the afternoon show, where Spike Eskin is now a co-host, he decided to stir up controversy by telling fans that they need to, “hold Bryce Harper accountable,” after he blew Friday’s game. Harper (who is currently on a nine-game hitting streak) has been electric all season. He had one misstep in a random game in June and now Spike is up in arms about it — or at least that’s what he tried to portray in his spiel.

Fast forward 24 hours, Harper has his monster game Monday night, and now Spike wants us all to thank him for Bryce’s dominance.

This kind of stuff has become commonplace on WIP, so even giving it the time of day with this article is questionable in its own right. In a vacuum, this clip really illustrates the state of Philadelphia sports radio and the importance they think they bring to the teams in this city.

Nothing any of these dorks say on a radio station has a tangible effect on wins and losses. No matter how hard they try to convince you that their opinions matter, they don’t. They care to them, but to the four major teams in this city, the players in this city, the coaches in this city, it doesn’t matter. And, for the record, that’s how it should be.

To think Bryce Harper heard Spike Eskin during the midday show on a local radio station before last night’s game and had a good game because of it is beyond stupid. Anyone with two brain cells would agree with that.
