Bryce Harper hitting Spike Eskin out of the park

Spike Eskin goes on insane rant telling fans to ‘hold Bryce Harper accountable’

94.1 WIP host and known mutant Spike Eskin had another cringeworthy rant this week. He set his sights on Phillies talisman Bryce Harper for his mistake on Friday that cost his team the game, embarrassing himself live on the air.

Spike Eskin wants fans to hold Bryce Harper accountable in one of his most brain-dead rants to date:

I mean, seriously. What the fuck is this guy even saying?

I’ve never held Spike to a high standard when it comes to anything, but this is potentially the dumbest thing he’s ever said. I totally understand the point of saying things to create controversy and drive engagement, but at least make it somewhat rooted in reality.

Sure, Harper gave the game away on Friday night, but he hit a monster home run on Saturday and is presently on an eight-game hitting streak. What exactly is there to hold him accountable for?

There’s 162 games in the regular season alone. This isn’t football where every single play matters in the long run and is magnified to the utmost importance.

Baseball is a game of statistical aberrations. Even the best make mistakes with that many innings being played. So the comparison to Jalen Hurts is kind of out the window.

And comparing him to Embiid? That’s completely laughable. Harper has multiple signature moments in the playoffs and has produced consistently throughout his time in a Phillies uniform. Embiid has a great +/- but can’t stay healthy, and that’s coming from one of

Spike Eskin in clearly forgetting that Bryce Harper is not only the best athlete in Philadelphia right now, but also the best playoff performer we have.

Don’t believe me? Here’s Bryce’s numbers so far this season, along with the Phillies record:

Bryce Harper's season stats, suck it Spike Eskin

“Yeah but what about the playoffs?” Shut up, dork, here you go:

So, yeah, Spike Eskin is a total moron. I’m not done with the numbers and accolades yet, either, because there’s so much overwhelming evidence that this is a Giglio-level dogshit take.

Bryce Harper with the Phillies:

  • National League MVP Award
  • Silver Slugger Award
  • NLCS MVP

He’s on his way to another NL MVP Award this season and the Phillies are the best team in Major League Baseball.

Harper is hitting .370 with 27 hits, 5 home runs, 9 RBI, and 16 runs scored in 19 games in the month of June.

In May, he hit .313 with 30 hits, 7 home runs, and 24 RBIs over 26 games.

Bryce Harper is THE GUY who spearheaded a cultural and organizational shift in Phillies baseball after a decade-long playoff drought put this franchise into the depths of hell.

Last 7 Games: .467 AVG | .900 SLG | 3 HR | 5 RBI

Last 15 Games: .397 AVG | .707 SLG | 4 HR | 7 RBI

Last 30 Games: .345 AVG | .637 SLG | 8 HR | 18 RBI

But, sure, Spike Eskin wants him to get as much flack as a still unproven QB and a guy who’s injured during literally every playoff run.

Let’s be real, Spike Eskin attends one Phillies game just because his co-host Jack Fritz lost a bet and now wants everyone to criticize Bryce Harper because of one bad play in the middle of June. That is absolutely insane behavior from someone who is the “head guy” on Philly Sports Talk Radio.

And none of this is to say that Harper should never be held accountable. He’s not some untouchable god (he is), but he hasn’t really given us any actual reason for concern.

So, really, Spike Eskin is just pissing in the wind with this take. End of story.
