Philadelphia 76ers snag Eric Gordon on veteran minimun contract

The Daryl Morey/former Houston Rocket jokes write themselves, as the Philadelphia 76ers inked veteran guard Eric Gordon to a veteran minimum contract. Spotrac estimates that Gordon, who has played 10+ years in the NBA, will get a minimum contract worth $3,634,148.

Eric Gordon is a quality and financially friendly addition to the 76ers as Gordon at 34- years old, still has some productivity left in the tank.

Gordon is coming off a 2023-2024 campaign with the Phoenix Suns where he dropped per-game averages of 11.0 points and 2.0 assists, on 37.8% shooting from three (5.8 attempts per game).

With the 76ers having just Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, and Ricky Council IV as the only guards on their roster, Philadelphia needed to add some back-court depth.

While Eric Gordon won’t start, he can still make solid contributions as a rotational player who can drill spot-up threes and defend at a serviceable level.

76ers’ backcourt will need more than Eric Gordon

Eric Gordon won’t cut it as the 76ers’ starting shooting guard, so Philadelphia will have to continue to buffer their back-court.

Philadelphia reportedly showed interest in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but with him signing with Orlando, the 76ers will need to pivot to another guard they can pair with Tyrese Maxey.

The 76ers are now the front-runners to land Paul George in free agency after his meeting with the Los Angeles Clippers resulted in nothing.

With George’s hypothetical max salary like to absorb most of Philadelphia’s cap space, the 76ers will need to execute more of these veteran minimum deals to fill out the loose ends of their roster.
