Miami Marlins taking calls on homegrown All-Star Jazz Chisholm, Phillies could show interest ahead of MLB Trade Deadline
Miami Marlins centerfielder and homegrown All-Star Jazz Chisholm could be on the move ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline at the end of the month.
The Marlins, after somehow making the postseason just last year, are a dumpster fire this season, currently in last place in the National League East standings at 30-57. They are 27 games under the .500 mark and 27 games behind the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
Needless to say, they will be sellers at the trade deadline.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Thursday that the Marlins are taking phone calls for infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. for trade.
Chisholm, still only 26-years old is a proven MLB-level talent who can play both middle infield spots as well as center field – which has caught the eyes of Phillies’ fans who know damn well they need some outfield help ahead of the July 30th trade deadline.
Jazz was an All-Star in 2022 and has notched 10 home runs, 39 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases over 83 games for Miami this season. He’s in the midst of his fifth season at the MLB-level and is a career .250 hitter with a career .753 OPS.
As Randy from American Idol said, “that’s gonna be a no from me, dawg”

While Chisholm is definitely a good baseball player, I don’t really think he’s a good “clubhouse guy” for the Philadelphia Phillies – and I”m not one to hold the importance of clubhouse vibes above talented baseball players.
While it’s important, I have full faith in the current Phillies’ roster to bring in any player and make them fit the mold of what they need in the clubhouse.
You’re telling me the Phillies can’t get a guy who stole the Phanatic’s ATV to be a clubhouse guy?
In a survey done by The Athletic last month, MLB players ranked Jazz Chisholm Jr as the most overrated player in the league, taking home over 20 percent of votes over other players like Anthony Rendon, Carlos Correa, and Tim Anderson – who was just DFA’d by the Marlins last week.
On top of that, Chisholm’s injury history is something that should be of concern for any team that’s looking to acquire him before the end of the month.
Chisholm is arbitration eligible for two more seasons. He’s a utility guy that has a proven track record at the MLB-level. That combined with his age and his many skills could justify the risk of an acquisition for a contending team.
There’s other options for the Phillies. Would I be upset with Jazz Chisholm? Of course not but I would much rather look elsewhere for outfield help – including Luis Robert Jr and Cody Bellinger.
