Paul George shares his opinion on Sixers teammate Kelly Oubre, considering their past on-court battles

With the release of Paul George’s post-free-agency podcast, anticipation for this episode was high and honestly, it lived up to the hype.

PG detailed everything you could imagine, from his negotiations with the Clippers to the Sixers‘ side of things. He even touched on Kelly Oubre, who he’s had a past with, to say the least.

Rivals become teammates: Paul George and Kelly Oubre’s past encounters

Tell you what, it’s very refreshing to have players on the Sixers that show this level of competitiveness. I had serious doubts that Daryl Morey could completely change the narrative surrounding the 76ers heading into next season but now? I couldn’t be happier to be wrong.

Key Takeaway: In an era of the NBA where the league seems to be more “buddy-buddy” rather that the “bully ball” and general distain between players that definited the 90s and early 2000s, having this type of competitive nature on the same team is exactly what you want in South Philadelphia on a nightly basis.

With that said, I won’t go down the rabbit hole as to why PG and Oubre went so hard at each other in their previous matchups; I’m just so excited the Sixers are finally putting together a legitimate championship roster around Joel Embiid.

Morey landed George and retained Oubre to go along with key role player signings, Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon. On top of that, the 76ers front office signed Caleb Martin to play the 4 on a deal that was $30 million less than what the Miami Heat initially offered him.

Mix in an exciting draft pick in Jared McCain and all of the sudden, the 76ers are a Top 3 team in the East. Go figure.

Paul George on playing with Kelly Oubre on the Sixers:

“I love his competitiveness. I love his tenaciousness. I’m looking forward to lining it up with him… We always seem to get into it when we play, but he’s one of those players I look forward to competing with.”

I’d imagine Nick Nurse is licking his chops at this newly formed Sixers squad. The new-look 76ers have so much length and versatility, which should strike fear in the NBA’s Eastern Conference – specifically the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.
