The Donald Trump Celly? Tampa Bay Rays and St. Louis Cardinals debut celebrations on Sunday as an ode to the former president

Just hours after Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and eight days removed from the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Major League Baseball players showed their support for the former president in the form of celebrations on the base paths and in the dugout.

During the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 win over the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon, infielder Taylor Walls put his hand up in the air and said “fight, fight, fight” – an ode to Donald Trump.

The Rays took 2-of-3 from the Yankees to improve to 50-49 on the season while New York fell to 59-42, two games behind the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles.

Not to be outdone, the St. Louis Cardinals did their own Trump Celly, after Alec Burleson took starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach deep for a solo home run in the second inning.

When Burleson rounded third base, the broadcast showed the Cardinals dugout, all of which had their hands on their right ears while holding up their left fists, a reference to Trump’s ear wound and the pose he made before being removed from the stage.

My favorite part about these types of things is the fact that the majority of the internet fails to realize that Major League Baseball players from this country at least, hail from the south and tend to be more in favor of the right side of things when it comes to politics.

On top of that, just people in general who get mad about a home run celebrations but are totally fine with other, non-political variations, including Bryce Harper’s “Hawk Tuah” and Sketch Celly, or any reference as long as it doesn’t include the lightning rod himself, Donald Trump.

Not to be forgotten, accounts like Talkin’ Baseball who know damn well it’s a Trump Home Run Celebration and instead of just acknowledging it for what it is, pose it as a question on social media just to have people argue about it.

Nasty Stuff. If you want a good example of “Engagement Farming” then look no further to their tweet questioning the Cardinals dugout celly. Obviously, anyone with half a brain knew it was an ode to Donald Trump.

Talkin’ Baseball scared to call it what it is…

It will be interesting how Major League Baseball views these celebrations and if political references in general will be allowed.

Personally, I don’t give a shit but a part of me would love to watch more of Trump Cellys to happen and chaos unfold social media over something that at the end of the day, is pretty meaningless.
