Joel Embiid dominates in Team USA exhibition win over Team Germany 92-88

Joel Embiid continued to find his footing on the international stage as Team USA beat Germany 92-88 in their fifth and final showcase game ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

Team USA won their fifth and final showcase game against Germany 92-88. Embiid was second to LeBron James in scoring, finishing the day with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 stocks (1 steal and 1 block), on 5-8 shooting from the field.

Joel Embiid makes highlights in the first half

Joel Embiid and LeBron James have developed strong chemistry during Team USA’s exhibition games. Today against Germany, their progression was on fully display with Embiid grabbing a rebound and throwing a long pass to James for an impressive dunk in transition.

With Team USA allowing Germany to hang around in the second quarter and in desperate need of a spark, Embiid and Anthony Edwards delivered on what was clearly the highlight of Team USA’s dominance in exhibition play.

Embiid made an excellent play to recover and deliver a “chase down” block, allowing Edwards to bolt down the court in transition and pull off a nasty crossover to notch two points on a ridiculous dunk.

Joel Embiid and LeBron James close out Germany in the second half

Germany managed to take a slight lead in the second half before Team USA asserted dominance with LeBron James taking over (again) with the help of Embiid. James found Embiid in the post for a clutch turnaround jumper over Theis and on other plays, drew two defenders that led to effortless buckets for James off the back-cut.

Those who doubted Joel Embiid on Team USA are awfully quiet right now. Embiid, known to be a slow-starter definitely struggled for the better part of exhibition play but once he got his 7-foot, 280 pound frame moving, he has started to look like the player that won the 2023 NBA MVP.
