Gilbert Arenas posts insane rant about Team USA’s narrow victory over South Sudan, criticizes Joel Embiid for ‘throwing games’
In shocking news to absolutely no one who is on social media and a fan of basketball, Gilbert Arenas said something stupid (again) on his podcast.
Following Team USA narrowly avoiding an upset at the hands of South Sudan, Gilbert Arenas took to TikTok to criticize the American’s performance, saying that the “males almost lost to some Africans and ‘The King’ had to save us.”
Gilbert Arenas goes on insane rant about Joel Embiid, Team USA
Obviously, the “King” referred to in this situation is LeBron James, who made a clutch layup with under 10 seconds left in the game to secure a 101-100 win for Team USA.
Arenas continued his boneheaded rant by saying some wild shit about South Sudan, making comments about the quality of life in Africa while insisting the United States shouldn’t be losing to “the Cool Runnings team.”
He then name-dropped Joel Embiid, who’s a Cameroon native. Nothing to do with South Sudan. Embiid was born in Cameroon and moved to the United States when he was 16. He became an American citizen in 2022.
Gilbert Arenas on Joel Embiid “throwing games for his cousins”
“This is crazy, man Embiid over there, throwing the game for his cousins and shit…”
Cool. What a bizarre statement to make, right? I guess Gilbert Arenas is back on the Hennessy? That’s the only thing that would make sense and could be the reason behind his stupid rant.
Embiid was asked about his comments by Arenas and told reporters that he didn’t “condone” them – but made it clear that he hadn’t heard exactly what was said.
Joel Embiid on Gilbert Arenas
“If it was that negative it’s just that disappointing,” Embiid said. “Because you see what African basketball has done for us to be in this position to be able to make some sort of impact, even the position that I am [in]. … It’s really unfortunate, especially in the world we live in right now so much negativity.”
Following Joel Embiid for his entire career, my guess is that we haven’t heard the end of his opinion on what Arenas said. Embiid is a troll on social media and definitely a “grudge guy” so I would bet good money that he’ll make sure Arenas hears from him when the Olympics are over.
Why Embiid continues to get so much hate about not only playing in the Olympics but for Team USA specifically remains a mystery to me. It literally makes no sense.
Joel Embiid moved to the United States when he was 16 years old to play basketball. He has lived in Philadelphia since he was drafted, got married here, and his son Arthur was born here – making him an American citizen.
As for comments like Rasheed Wallace made last week, Embiid playing alongside the best basketball players in the world in the Olympics with an opportunity to win a Gold Medal is invaluable experience that will only benefit him and the Philadelphia 76ers in the long run.

The hate needs to stop. Not to mention, Gilbert Arenas is nothing more than an engagement farming clown.
No one takes Gilbert Arenas seriously and his opinions on the NBA, players, and basketball in general are mocked and laughed at on a daily basis. No one takes him seriously and it was inevitable that in his failing attempts to stay relevant, he would have to cross the line and post some xenophobic-filled rant to make headlines.
Team USA posted a perfect 5-0 record in the exhibition schedule. While Embiid needed some time (obviously) to get back into game shape, while also adjusting his game to better fit the USA roster on the international level, yesterday’s game against Germany was the perfect step in the right direction. Embiid scored 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists in Team USA’s win over Germany.
