Joel Embiid joins the “Check Ball Show” talks Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics ‘Super Team’
Joel Embiid joined the “Check Ball Show”, hosted by Austin Mills, Drew Hanlen, Frankie Delgado and discussed a variety of topics, including facing double teams, playing on Team USA, his +/- and how it compares to LeBron James, the Boston Celtics and Jayson Tatum being on a “super team”.
One specific clip is making its rounds all over social media, where Joel Embiid is talking about Jayson Tatum and how the Celtics star is lucky to be playing on a “super team” in Boston.
Embiid claimed that the Celtics team around Jayson Tatum is good enough to win even when he has a bad night – a luxury that he doesn’t have in Philadelphia. It was in response to NBA Skills coach Drew Hanlen, who trains Embiid and Tatum in the offseason – at times together.
That comment is 100% true.
Tatum went 6-of-22 from the field and 1-of-7 from three-point range in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, but Boston still managed to win.
Joel Embiid on Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics “Super Team”
Embiid isn’t wrong, we all watched what happened when he came out of the game during the playoffs last season against the New York Knicks – and that was with the big fella playing with a severe case of bells palsy and a torn apart knee.
On top of that, Embiid and Tatum are friends and both train under Drew Hanlen in the offseason so anyone who is taking Embiid’s comments as some type of “diss” or “shot” at Tatum is completely off-base.
The two are actually good friends and again, work out together frequently.
I’m all for it. Embiid should continue running his mouth this Summer and ideally, win a gold medal with Team USA at the Paris Olympics.
There’s no excuses next season. Embiid has Tyrese Maxey and Paul George with him on what should be one of the best supporting 76ers’ casts he has ever played with.
We aren’t going to view this clip as Joel Embiid throwing his teammates under the bus either. That’s obviously off-base because he’s just talking shit with his friends. There’s no deep meaning behind it. Embiid isn’t unhappy. He’s just joking around with Hanlen and friends about another friend, Jayson Tatum.
The entire podcast is pretty great. I always like hearing Embiid talk. His self-awareness and cleverness is always on full display. Unfortunately for the majority of the viewing audience, they fail to pick up on it and for whatever reason criticize Embiid all over social media.
