Eagles’ Saquon Barkley explains why he chose to come to Philadelphia this offseason
Anyone who knows ball could probably explain why Saquon Barkley decided to join the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. Nevertheless, hearing Saquon explain it himself is still worth the listen.
After the team’s first day at training camp, Saquon was asked about his reasoning behind coming to Philly this offseason. As you could probably guess, he pointed to the Eagles offensive line and the weapons that surround him.
Saquon on why he signed with the Eagles
“I decided to come to this team because I knew this team could help me with my legacy for my career,” Barkley said via Fox Sports. “And I know we have an opportunity to go out and win games.”
He obviously has a better chance at succeeding and cementing his legacy as one of the greats here than in New York. If you watched HBO’s Hard Knocks this offseason, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Speaking of the Eagles offensive line and weapons, Saquon had nothing but great things to say.
“Yeah, I feel like that’s a reason why I wanted to come here,” Barkley said of the Birds line. “The offensive line, history has shown they can be really good. It’s going to help me show my true potential.
“It still doesn’t feel real when I’m in that offensive huddle, seeing all those guys. Pro Bowlers and All-Pros at every position. I know there will be times this season where there might be games they’re going to hand the ball to 2-6 and I’ve got to try to take over the game. But there might be games where I’ve got to sit back and watch A.J. Brown do what he do, or DeVonta Smith.
“So whatever it takes, that’s what it is. That’s what I’m about.”
From the looks of it, all Saquon wants to do at this point in his career is win. It doesn’t matter if he’s the focal point or not. He’s been the focal point his entire career in New York. Now, he just wants W’s.
