Ranger Suarez Injured List

Phillies look to Kolby Allard as Ranger Suarez joins Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull on the Injured List

The Phillies have officially placed Ranger Suarez on the 15-Day Injured List due to lower left back soreness, his second back issue in the past few weeks.

Ranger Suarez missed his first National League All-Star appearance in Texas last week because of right back spasms. He rejoined the Phillies’ rotation earlier this week in Minnesota and “felt fine” but woke up Friday morning with tightness in his lower left back, which ultimately landed him on the 15-Day Injured List.

Suarez can be activated from the IL as early as Aug. 7 in Los Angeles, but Thomson said the Phillies are hopeful he will rejoin the rotation for the series in Arizona from Aug. 8-11.

Ranger Suarez hits IL, Kolby Allard recalled from Lehigh Valley

In a corresponding move, the Phillies promoted lefty Kolby Allard from Triple A Lehigh Valley to take Ranger’s spot in the rotation. Allard will get the start today at 1:35PM, looking for a series win over Cleveland Guardians pitcher Joey Cantillo.

Allard got off to a rough start this season in Lehigh Valley, but in his first eight appearances since rejoining the team in early June, he is 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA.

Obviously, the most important thing is to get Ranger Suárez healthy heading into September and October. The Phillies should give him as much time as he needs so he’s available down the stretch. The Phillies are fortunate that their young pitchers have answered the call while their rotation continues to battle through injuries.

Last night, Tyler Phillips dazzled on the mound in the Phillies’ 8-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians. Phillips allowed four hits on 105 pitches (71 strikes) in nine scoreless innings. He struck out four, walked one and was backed by homers from Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos.

Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull Injury Updates

Taijuan Walker (right index finger) threw a live BP on Saturday, which reportedly went well. Topper told reporters that Walker is throwing with increased velocity and better command of his pitches, including his splitter. Walker is scheduled to throw another live BP on Wednesday and if all goes well, it could be his last before starting a rehab assignment.

Spencer Turnbull (right lat) is playing catch from 90 feet. He’s not scheduled to re-join the Phillies until the end of August and plans on heading to Clearwater to continue rehab later this week.
