Phillies will add advertising patch to uniforms starting Wednesday, as team agrees to multi-year deal with Independence Blue Cross
The Phillies will wear the Independence Blue Cross emblem on their sleeve, joining other sports franchises, including 21 other Major League Baseball teams in adding advertising patches to their uniforms.
The Phillies’ managing partner and CEO, John Middleton, revealed that the sponsorship patch agreement is a multiyear deal. According to Matt Breen at the Philadelphia Inquirer, Middleton stated that it’s less than the 25-year agreement with Citizens Bank for ballpark naming rights, but is still considered “way more than any other sponsorship deal.”

All five of the team’s uniform tops will feature the IBX logo starting with Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Yankees, joining other Philly sports teams as the Flyers and Union also wear to wear the IBX logo on their uniforms.
For the Philadelphia Union, the blue IBX logo works given the team’s colors. As for the Philadelphia Flyers, it looks pretty awful given the placement on orange and black. I do have hope that it will look decent with the Phillies given their color selection, depending on what shade of blue they are permitted to use.

The NBA, NHL, and MLS allow uniform sponsors, while the NFL only permits advertisements on practice jerseys. Last year, was the first that Major League Baseball allowed teams to add advertising patches while the Phillies played with blank sleeves until securing a sponsor. They are now the Team No. 22 out of 30 to add a patch to their uniforms.
