WATCH: Jalen Hurts chosen to represent the NFL in the new 2028 Olympic Games flag football promo

With less than a week remaining in the 2024 Paris Olympics, attention has started to shift to 2028 and the host city of Los Angeles, California.

When the Olympic Games arrive to Los Angeles, so will a new Flag Football event and the NFL is already shifting gears of their year(s)-long machine to promote the event. Yesterday, they dropped their first promotional video featuring none-other-than Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Jalen Hurts serves as the Global Flag Football Ambassador, and has been promoting the brand new sport that will make it’s Olympic debut in 2028.

The video shows Hurts igniting the LA Coliseum torch with a flaming football, signaling the flag-version as an official sport at LA28, reminiscent of the archer lighting the Olympic torch at the Olympic Games Barcelona 1992.

How cool is that? It sure seems like the NFL would love for Jalen Hurts to become its new face of the league and a trusted player to carry the Flag Football brand into the Olympics.

As flag football gears up for its Olympic debut in four years, the NFL and IFAF are putting a spotlight on the sport this summer – kicking things with the NFL Flag Championships that featured the world’s top youth flag football tournament. 2,800 players from around the globe competed at Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio.

This past week, the NFL revealed that the 2025 Pro Bowl Games will be hosted in Orlando, Florida. The league’s top athletes will showcase their abilities in various on-field and off-field skill competitions, culminating in a flag football game.

Later this month, elite flag football talent representing 32 nations across five continents will converge on the biggest-ever IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Lahti, Finland.

So, as you can imagine, by the time 2028 arrives, the hype around Men’s and Women’s Flag Football will be legit. Not to mention, it aligns perfectly with the Olympics returning to the United States that year, where we can celebrate America’s sport. While it isn’t the full-blown physical version we see in the NFL, it’s still a very fast-paced and exciting sport.

Will NFL players play flag football at 2028 Olympics in LA?

Right now, the early-answer is yes. I want Jalen Hurts as QB1 for Team USA, with other playmakers on the field more than the air I breathe. For now however, we can focus on the 2024-25 NFL season.
