Haason Reddick requests trade from Jets, Eagles have chance to pull off ultimate fleece job
The Eagles have a chance to make the funniest trade ever.
Jets edge-rusher Haason Reddick, who the Eagles traded for a third-round pick earlier this offseason, has officially requested a trade amidst his holdout for a new contract.

The Jets acquired Reddick four months ago, and the trade indicated that a new deal was part of the package. However, the two sides have failed to negotiate an extension, resulting in Reddick’s second trade request in one offseason.
I personally don’t understand why the Jets traded for Reddick without a new contract in place. Most organizations give the disgruntled player an extension once acquired, i.e. the Eagles with CB Darius Slay and WR A.J. Brown.
Upon arrival in Philly, Slay was awarded a three-year, $50M extension, while Brown was signed to a four-year, $100M extension.
Now, the Jets are forced to move a player who never participated in a single practice or game with the team.
Could Reddick find his way back to Philadelphia? Maybe.
The Eagles granted Reddick permission to seek a trade in February after the two parties couldn’t agree on a new extension. Reddick’s camp was reportedly seeking a deal worth $25M annually. Rather than pay Reddick, the Eagles signed free agent Bryce Huff to a three-year, $51.1M contract.
On his current deal, Reddick is 19th in the NFL in average annual value.

- Brian Burns: $28.2M

- Danielle Hunter: 24.5M
- Montez Sweat: $24.5M

It’s unclear if Reddick’s asking price has come down, but the market clearly isn’t what he had hoped for. If GM Howie Roseman was reluctant to hand a 30-year-old pass-rusher guaranteed money before, I doubt he has changed his stance since.
Never say never, however. Reddick has one year remaining on the three-year, $45M deal he originally signed with the Eagles — don’t put it past Roseman to execute the ultimate fleece job.
Update: Jets have no intention of trading Haason Reddick at the moment.
“We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report,” G.M. Joe Douglas said in a statement released by the team.
“Since the trade discussions back in March, we have been clear, direct, and consistent with our position. Our focus will remain on the guys we have here as we prepare for the regular season.”
