Jason Kelce squashes any notion that he’ll return to Eagles in 2024
Despite being around the team constantly throughout this offseason, it doesn’t seem like Jason Kelce will actually come out of retirement to suit up for the Eagles again. Even though every fan and teammate would welcome him back with open arms.
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Kelce squashed any notion that he’ll be returning this year. He’s slimmed down from 295 to 275, with the goal of getting down to 260.
Jason Kelce on why he’s not coming back
“They’re not going to call me to come back and play center at 260 pounds, and I’m moving on to the next thing and I’m excited to watch Cam (Jurgens),” Jason Kelce told AP. “I really think Cam is going to be tremendous this year. He’s going to really show people how great of a player he is. He was good for us last year at right guard and he’s going to flourish at center.“
The Eagles drafted Jurgens two years ago as the heir apparent to Kelce. The Hall of Fame center actually helped the scouting department hand-pick his successor — something only a player like Kelce has the luxury of doing.
“And for me personally, my days of playing are just done and I do not foresee any scenario taking place other than maybe medicine inventing a way to get rid of arthritis that I would ever entertain coming back at all anymore.”
At the end of the day, it’s selfish of us to want Kelce back on the field. The guy gave us a decade and a half of Hall of Fame football. If you watched the Kelce documentary on Amazon, you’ll know the toll that took on his body.
Jason Kelce is an all-timer. I don’t know if coming back would necessarily tarnish that, but why do it when you’ve accomplished everything there is to accomplish in this sport? He’s a legend and he retired a legend. That’s all we can ask for.
