Bryce Harper Walk Off Houston Astros

Bryce Harper returns to form, delivers walk off hit against the Astros in extra innings

It’s no secret that Bryce Harper hasn’t quite been himself recently, but on Monday night against the Astros, he flashed the clutch magic he’s known for.

In the 10th inning, with the game on the line against the Houston Astros, Bryce Harper smacked a walk-off single to right field, bringing Kyle Schwarber home from second base and handing The Fightins a much needed 3-2 win at Citizens Bank Park.

Bryce Harper Walk Off Single in Extra Innings:

Harper’s heroics marked his 15th career walk-off hit, his sixth since joining the Phillies and first since August 14, 2020 against the New York Mets.

It honestly couldn’t have come at a better time. Harper hasn’t been playing well and when the Phillies are struggling at a team, every fan in the area looks to their MVP to right the ship and restore order to the realm.

Before the All-Star break, Harper hit .301 with an impressive .982 OPS, along with 21 home runs and 61 RBI. Post All-Star break has been a different story for pretty much everyone in the Phillies’ lineup.

Harper specifically is hitting just .233 with a .683 OPS to go along with five homers and 15 RBI. From July 27th to August 3rd, Harper hit a significant 0-for-24 slump. He hasn’t hit a home run since August 9th – 55 at-bats ago.

Tonight was different. Harper ripped a leadoff double in the sixth and advanced to third base on a fielders choice. He then scored the game-tying run on a Nick Castellanos’ broken bat single to centerfield.

The Braves just got out of a rain delay against the Minnesota Twins and are currently leading 9-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Right now, the Phillies hold a 6.5 game lead over Atlanta in the National League East standings.
